Information From North Command

Tuesday, August 7th is coming up quickly. There is still time to pull together a National Night Out event in your neighborhood. An ice cream social, a potluck dinner, or a simple meet and greet the folks on your block is a great way to open dialogue with your neighbors about starting or rejuvenating your group. I know of at least one group that is planning their own NNO celebration on the 15th because that day will accommodate more schedules. Get out there and meet your neighbors! Take back the night! I have attached the National Night Out Edition of Tidbits. You can see how many groups are planning a celebration. You may want to attend one of these to see how they are doing it.

August 15th is our next "Start Your Own Neighborhood Watch Group" training to be held at Police HQ at 5770 Freeport Blvd. We start at 6:30. Disregard the signs and park in the parking lot because the station will be closed by the time we come in.

September 26th will be a "Reporting: Code Enforcement/Crime" & "Metal Theft" training at the same location.

October 17th will be the first meeting for our leadership support. Some of the topics that I have planned for these quarterly meeting will include: Effective Meeting Facilitation, Rejuvenating a Flagging Group, and Asset Mapping. While everyone is welcome to attend, these meetings are geared toward those who have been leading groups for awhile and want further skill development as well as a place to throw around ideas and challenges with other leaders.

RSVP to these trainings by emailing me at [email protected].

My 2 cents:
This is a great community calendar to which you can either subscribe or access online. It is also a fabulous resource to promote your events and to win free tickets to events. If you have a large community network, this may be the perfect place to adveritise your group events because it is simple to access and a great deal less intimidating than other social media options.
